Online Schooling – High School

Do you have a homeschool student entering high school? Perhaps the idea of handling their assignments, grades, and transcripts (EEK!) makes you a little nervous. Or maybe you have a student who is currently in public or private school that you would like to bring home, or they are struggling academically, or socially, and want to learn from home. Whatever the reason, online schooling for high school is a viable option to attaining the education that your child needs.

With the growing popularity of homeschooling many schools are recognizing the potential to keep their currently enrolled students by offering an online option. This may be a possibility in your area. Your first step would be to contact the local schools in your area and ask if they offer an online option for students. If your student is not currently enrolled, you will be required to go through the registration process first, and then opting for the online courses.

Another possible route is to use an independent, online option. There are so many available! It is a veritable cornucopia presented before you, so all you have to do is find something that works for your needs.

There are a few free options, like K12 and Connections Academy, which may or may not be available in your area. These are online public school. If they are not offered for free in your state, you can enroll and pay tuition. Other options, like Saylor Academy, offer free online courses, but do not offer a complete program. You could have your student take one or all of their courses here, but you would be responsible for keeping track of their courses, and creating their transcript and diploma.
